Challenging scramble in Mt. Yari.

Itinerary: Yarigatake Trekking and Scrambling, 5 Days, 

With its dramatic, spear-like summit reaching 3,180 meters, Mount Yarigatake is often referred to as the "Matterhorn of Japan." As the country’s fifth-highest peak, it rises prominently within the Northern Japan Alps, a region known for its steep, rugged beauty. The ascent to Mt. Yari offers both breathtaking scenery and formidable challenges, including sections equipped with ladders and chains. Hikers should proceed with care throughout the route.

Day 1: Departure from Shinjuku around 7 AM via bus to Kamikochi. Upon arrival at Kamikochi bus terminal, embark on the hike to Tokusawa Lodge, aiming to reach by 3 PM. (57m/187ft elevation gain)

Day 2: After a delicious breakfast at Tokusawa Lodge, depart around 8 AM for Yarisawa Lodge, located halfway to Yarigatake Lodge. (258m/846ft elevation gain)

Day 3: Enjoy breakfast and begin trekking towards Yarigatake Lodge. (1260m/4133ft elevation gain) (If you arrive early enough, seize the opportunity to scramble to Yarigatake mountain) (100m/328ft elevation gain) 

Day 4: After breakfast, embark on the thrilling scrambling adventure of Yarigatake (3,180m/10,433ft). Descend to Yokoo Lodge by 3 PM for a well-deserved bath and relaxation.

Day 5: Indulge in a delightful breakfast before descending to Kamikochi. Don't forget to treat yourself to the famous soft ice cream at Tokusawa en route. Engage in sightseeing and souvenir shopping in Kappabashi before taking a bus back to Shinjuku.

Fall color in Senjougatake

Itinerary: Senjougatake Trekking, 3 Days, 

Straddling the border between Yamanashi and Nagano Prefectures, this mountain—often called the "Queen of the Southern Japan Alps"—is known for its graceful slopes and rich alpine flora. At over 3,000 meters, it features a summit marked by four distinct ridgelines and three gentle basins nestled among the peaks. Despite its impressive height, it remains a popular choice for beginner mountaineers looking for a more approachable introduction to the South Alps.

Day 1: Depart from Shinjuku station to Chino station. Take the buses to Kitazawa Toge. Check in at Komorebi Lodge by 3 PM.

Day 2: Indulge in a delightful breakfast at Komorebi Lodge before setting off around 9 AM for Senjougatake Mountain (3,032m). (1000m/3280ft elevation gain)  Enjoy a scenic lunch there before descending to Umanose Hyutte. Check in at Umanose Hyutte by 3 PM.

Day 3: After savoring breakfast, embark on the trek down to Kitazawa Toge and await the returning bus.

Beautiful flowers in Kisokomagatake

Itinerary: Kisokomagatake Hiking, 2 Days, 

Although the Central Alps may encompass a smaller terrain than the Northern and Southern Japan Alps, its extensive ridgelines provide unparalleled vistas and a rich diversity of Alpine flora, offering incomparably magnificent views.

Day 1: Depart from Shinjuku station to Komagane station. Take the local bus to Shirabi-daira and then a ropeway to Senjo-jiki. Hike up to Kisokomagatake (2,956m) and head to Komagatake Chojo Lodge, aiming to arrive by 3 PM. (344m/1128ft elevation gain)

Day 2: Enjoy a delightful breakfast and savor the scenery at Komagatake Chojo Lodge before descending to Senjo-jiki. Have lunch at Hotel Senjo-jiki or Shirabi-daira dining before returning to Tokyo.

Most thrilling scramble in Mt. Tsurugi and Tateyama

Itinerary: Tateyama loop and Tsurugidake, Trekking & Scrambling, 5 Days, 

Located in the northern reaches of the Northern Japan Alps, Mt. Tsurugi (Tsurugi-dake) attracts many hikers with its dramatic scenery and sense of adventure. While some routes are technically accessible to beginners, the mountain is best known for its demanding terrain, including exposed sections with ladders and chains. Extra care and proper preparation are essential for anyone attempting the climb.

Day 1: Depart from Tokyo Station to Toyama Station and then take a local train to Tateyama Station. From there, ascend via cable car and bus to Murodo. Embark on a scenic 10-minute hike to Mikurigaike Onsen Mountain Hut, arriving by 3 PM. (10m/32.8ft elevation gain)

Day 2: After indulging in a traditional Japanese breakfast, commence your trek towards Kenzan-so Mountain Hut, where you'll check in by 3 PM. (60m/196.8ft elevation gain)

Day 3: Kick off your day with a hearty breakfast before embarking on a thrilling trek and scramble up to Tsurugidake (2,999m/9835ft). Descend to Kenzan-so to retrieve your backpack, then continue your descent to Raichou Lodge, arriving in time to check in by 3 PM. Unwind in the invigorating hot springs and relish a delightful dinner.

Day 4: Following breakfast, embark on the Tateyama loop trek. Traverse the picturesque route to Bessan (2874m), Masago (2861m), Fujinooritate (2999m), Oonanji-yama (3015m), and Oyama (2991m), passing by Ichinokkoshi Hut along the way. Descend to Raicho Lodge to conclude your day's journey. (about 715m/2346ft elevation gain)

Day 5: Trek back to Murodo and bid farewell to the breathtaking landscapes as you head back to Tokyo.

Challenging trekking in Akadake

Itinerary: Akadake Trekking and Scramling, 3 Days, 

Rising as the tallest peak in the Yatsugatake Mountains, Mount Akadake rewards hikers with sweeping 360-degree views of the Japanese Alps and Mount Fuji. A variety of trails cater to different experience levels, with the Minotoguchi trailhead offering a popular route for a round-trip ascent to the summit.

Day 1: Depart from Shinjuku station to Chino station. Take the bus to Minoto-guchi and check in at Yatsugatake Lodge before 3 PM.

Day 2: After enjoying a delightful breakfast, begin trekking to Akadake (2899m/9511ft) Take breaks at Gyoujagoya and proceed cautiously on the steep trails, where chains and ladders aid climbing. Check in at Akadake Chojo Lodge and ascend to the summit. (1409m/4622ft elevation gain) It takes 5 hours and 20 minutes. 

Day 3: Start your day with breakfast and soak in the magnificent views from the lodge before descending to Minoto-guchi. Exercise caution on the steep trails while descending.
